Everest Base Camp Trek Itinerary

In this blog post, you will get some basic ideas about Everest Base trek Itinerary. The trek is a two weeks exciting journey that leads you to the base of the tallest mountain of the world, Mt. Everest. It is one of the ultimate destinations and a dream of every expert traveller around the world, who wants to fulfill their dream.

There are many tourist attractions in Nepal. Among them the Everest Base camp is the best attraction for travellers! While you plan for the Everest Base Camp Trek itinerary, you can choose for 12 days trek itinerary to 14 days itinerary including Kathmandu.

Trek Preparation?

Everest Base Camp trek is a tough and challenging trek compared to other treks as it is located at high altitude. Be physically and mentally prepared to complete the trek successfully. To prevent from high altitude sickness, you should go in slow pace and ensure yourself that your body is being adjusted with thin air.

When to trek?

Firstly, from mid September till the end of November is the best season to trek for the best travel experience. So, for the best photography experience, you should plan this trek during the period. Secondly, you can trek from March till mid of June.

In Nepal from mid June to mid September is monsoon season. In other words, trekking is not recommended during this period. The weather is not favorable in December through February due to minimum temperature. However, you can still trek during the time, but not highly recommended.

How to start your trek to Base Camp?

In order to start your adventure, you will take a half an hour exciting flight from Kathmandu to Lukla; the “Gateway to Everest.” To reach the famous Sherpa villages of Phakding and Namche Bazar, you will trek from Lukla, so you will enjoy your first day hike. Moving further up, you will trek towards Tengboche Monastery, which is located on the top of the mountain ridge, that reflects the prominent Sherpa culture. Then, you will trek further ahead towards Dingboche, Lobuche , Gorak Shep and then importantly you will reach at Everest base camp, and Kalapathar.

After exploring 360 degree panoramic views of the Himalayas, you will trek back to Lukla and then to Kathmandu by flight.

Detailed Trek plan:

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1350m)

Our airport representative will meet you and transfer to your hotel. You will be introduced to your guide and the trek leader will be briefing you about the trek plan.

Day 02: Kathmandu flight to Lukla (2804m) and trek to Phakding (2610m)

You will take a 35 minutes flight to Lukla from Kathmandu after early morning breakfast. After meeting trek members in Lukla, your journey to Everest Base Camp begins by crossing beautiful landscapes, bridges and villages. You will reach Phakding after a 3 hours trek from Lukla.

Day 03:  Trek Phakding to Namche bazaar (3440m)

Your second day trek will start crossing the suspension bridges, pine forests and you will reach Monjo, the entrance point to Sagarmatha National Park. Just before you arrive at Namche Bazar, you get to enjoy your first view of Mt. Everest. After 6 hours of trek from Pkhading, you will arrive at Namche Bazar- capital of the Everest region.

Acclimatization

Day 04:  Acclimatization day at Namche Bazar

Today is the rest day and you will be doing hikes in Namche Bazar. After breakfast, you will hike to Syangboche, Khungde (3840m) and Khumjung (3780m) or Thame as optional. You will have a great day after viewing the mesmerizing panoramic views of the highest mountains such as Mt Amadablam, Thamserku, Kusum Kangaru, Lhotse and Mt. Everest.

 Day 05: Trek Namche to Tengboche (3850m)

After having breakfast at Namche Bazar, you will follow the trail that leads towards Khyangjumpa (3550m) from where the trail to Gokyo Lake and Everest Base Camp separates. After 2 hours of trek from Khyangjumpa, you will reach Tengboche, a beautiful and famous village of Khumbu region from where you can spot the charms of beautiful mountains.

Day 06: Trek Tengboche to Dingboche (4410m)

This day, your journey starts with a short trek through lush green pine forests and fresh rhododendron forest towards a beautiful forest Pangboche (3930m).  On the way to Dingboche, you can admire the view of the Himalayas. After 6 hours of trek, you reach the picturesque village, Dingboche, which is also known as gateway for Island Peak climbing.

Another Acclimatization before reaching Everest Base Camp

Day 07: Acclimatization day at Dingboche

Today is another day for acclimatization in Dingboche to avoid any further risk of altitude. You will climb the top of hill and hike to Chhukung village which is surrounded by splendid peaks like Mt. Lhoste, Makalu, Cho Oyu and many more.

Day 08: Trek Dingboche to Lobuche (4950m)

This day you will be trekking for almost 6-7 hours. On the way to Laboche, you can see many memorials made in the memory of the climbers who lost their lives climbing Mount Everest with praying flags and stones.

Day 09: Trek Labuche to Gorak shep (5104m) to Everest Base Camp (5400m)

After early morning breakfast, you will leave early for Everest Base Camp. After 3-4 hours of trek, you will reach Gorak Shep and rest for a bit. You will start your hike towards the final destination, Everest Base Camp after some lunch. After capturing some valuable memories on your cameras and heart, you will head back to Gorak Shep and spend your night there.

Return to Lukla…

Day 10: Hike to Kalapathar (5545m)

Another exciting day after trekking to Everest Base Camp! You will start hiking very early in the morning towards Kala Pathar, which is one of the best viewpoints in the Everest region. It will take approximately 2 hours of walking. Then you will start descending to Pheriche (4317m), where you will spend your night there

Day 11: Trek back to Namche bazaar

You will start your trekking back to Namche Bazar following the same trek routes passing the villages of Tashinga and Sansa. You will stay at Namche Bazar and can enjoy your hot shower and relax

Day 12: Trek back to Lukla

This is the final day of your trekking in the land of Himalayas. After your breakfast, you will start trekking back to Lukla. Passing some breathtaking views you will reach Lukla and spend your time there with your trekking members for the last time.

Day 13: Fly back to Kathmandu

You will take a flight to Kathmandu after early morning breakfast. Flights may be delayed due to weather conditions.

Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu, breakfast included.

Day 14: Final departure

After breakfast, our representative will drive you to Tribhuvan International Airport with a private vehicle for your departure flight; bid a farewell for your safe flight.
