About Nepal Hiking – Our Story, Values, and Himalayan Journey
Nepal Hiking was founded in 2003 with a simple belief — that travel in Nepal should feel personal, meaningful, and genuinely connected to local people and mountain life.
Founder Tilak Thapa Magar grew up in the rural hills of Dhading, surrounded by traditional village culture and the Himalayan landscape that would later shape his life’s work. After years of working closely with trekkers and travellers in Nepal, he recognised that tourism could become more than just business. It could create opportunities for local communities, support families in mountain regions, and help visitors experience Nepal in a more authentic and respectful way.
What started as a small local guiding service slowly grew through hard work, word of mouth, and long-term relationships with travellers from around the world. Many guests returned to Nepal again with friends and family, not simply because of the mountains, but because they felt personally welcomed and cared for throughout their journey.
Over the years, Nepal Hiking expanded beyond trekking into cultural tours, hospitality, wellness-inspired travel, and research support programmes in Nepal. Despite this growth, the company has remained family-led and deeply connected to its original values of honesty, flexibility, local knowledge, and responsible tourism.
Today, Nepal Hiking is guided by both experience and a new generation of leadership. Under the involvement of Monika Thapa Magar, the company continues moving towards a more inclusive and people-focused future in Nepalese tourism.

From Local Guiding Service to Trusted Nepal Travel Company
Since 2003, Nepal Hiking has gradually grown into a trusted local trekking company in Nepal, organising Himalayan adventures for solo travellers, couples, families, researchers, and small groups from around the world.
Over time, the company also expanded into hospitality through Hotel Sohum and Kathmandu Suite Home, creating comfortable spaces for travellers before and after their journeys in the mountains.
Our team continues to combine local experience, practical trekking knowledge, and genuine hospitality with a strong belief that tourism should remain human, respectful, and community-oriented.
