Manaslu Region is one of Nepal’s most pleasing regions for all-around trekking in the Himalayas.
Commencing in the green foothills at Arughat and following the ancient route of the salt traders, you will walk along narrow paths up the narrow, steep-sided, wooded valley and through traditional rural villages that adhere to the hillsides above the tumbling white water of the Budhi Gandaki River. The valley widens to show a beautiful alpine view, with the high snow-capped mountains of the Manaslu Massif dominating the skyline.
Further forests of pine, rhododendron and bamboo, you will follow a route that encircles the great Manaslu peak (8156m), the eighth tallest mountain in the world. Overnight stops in tea houses offer welcome comfort after the trial efforts. It also helps to support the livelihoods of the people living within the Annapurna and Manaslu conservation areas, and you can enjoy the variety of home-grown fresh produce. Some of these tea houses are basic, but the same warm welcome is given to travellers wherever they stay the night. Beyond Samagaon, the largest village in the area, the trail follows the Larke Pass and down the Marsyangdi valley to join the Annapurna circuit trek route to Besi Sahar.
