Nepal is a mountaineer’s paradise, offering an array of exhilarating climbs, beautiful panoramas, and adrenaline-inducing adventures. Whether you’re a first-time climber or an experienced enthusiast, the Nepalese peaks offer something for everyone. Read on to discover some of the best climbs in Nepal!

Overview of Nepal Climbing

Nepal is famous for trekking and climbing and is a dream destination for adventure seekers. With Everest, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and several more of the highest peaks in the world within its borders, this is no surprise. There are many wonderful snow-capped mountains for climbing in Nepal. Besides the 10 mountains over 8000 metres in Nepal, there are other peak-climbing mountains between 6000 – 7000 metres in Nepal. For example, we take the names Mera Peak, Island Peak, Pisang Peak, and Paldor Peak. These are the perfect peaks for climbing where you do not need to be an expert climber. Around 236 peaks are available for expeditions or climbing, and 18 lower peaks are suitable for trekking.

It allows travellers with limited climbing skills and experience and a limited budget to choose a climb. It suits them—to get a taste of the wilderness above the snow line. And you can challenge yourself to climb in the footsteps of the great mountaineers. The popular trekking areas are more accessible than the extreme peaks over 8000m. Nepal Hiking can arrange climbing trips at a reasonable cost.

Mount Everest

Boasting a staggering 8,848 meters (29,029 feet), Mt. Everest is the highest mountain on Earth and the world’s most renowned peak. As it is well-known as the ‘roof of the world’, this legendary mountain is located in Nepal’s Mahalangur Himal sub-range of the Himalayas. Climbing to its summit involves enduring extreme conditions, physical exhaustion, and considerable risk — making it one of the ultimate mountaineering challenges.

Mount Annapurna I

Annapurna I (pronounced an-na-purr-nah) in Central Nepal is the world’s tenth-highest mountain and is considered one of the most dangerous. Standing at 8,091 meters (26,545 feet), the peak presents climbers with steep exposed faces, high avalanche risk and some technically demanding sections. Yet, despite the dangers, many experienced mountaineers consider Annapurna I an adventure of a lifetime – offering spectacular views and unforgettable memories.

Mount Manaslu

At 8160m / 26,755ft, Manaslu – Sanskrit for ‘Mountain of the Spirit’ is the 8th highest mountain in the world. The peak rises above the Gorkha district east of Annapurna with outstanding views and a much less crowded climbing route than some of Nepal’s other higher mountains. With glaciers, snowy summits and pristine forests included in your journey, Manaslu is an incredible challenge for even the most seasoned mountaineers.

Mount Dhaulagiri I

Located towards the western edge of Nepal, Dhaulagiri I is the 7th highest mountain in the world. With some of the picturesque scenery in Nepal, climbing this peak will take your breath away and challenge you like no other. Covering an incredible 8000m/26,246ft altitude range, climbers must prepare themselves for days in icy snowfields and avalanches. Defying death and conquering this mountain takes passion, technical skill and a little luck to reach its summit.

Mount Makalu I

Makalu I is Nepal’s 5th highest peak at 8481m/27,766 feet. Despite being one of the lesser-known Everest massif peaks, Makalu offers a unique climbing experience for those seeking an extraordinary challenge. Climbers must conquer glacier crossings, deep crevasses and nearly vertical ice walls as they journey up this majestic summit. The successful summit of Makalu boasts incredible views of Mount Everest and the range of other 8-thousands surrounding it.

Nepal Climbing Experience

No previous climbing experience is necessary, although a background in outdoor pursuits is useful. Before the trek or climbing commences, we will give you basic instructions on rope handling and other climbing equipment. During the trek and climbing, our experienced local guides, registered with the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), will assist you with their technical knowledge and help you reach the summit.

Our Guides accompany all trekking expeditions for the entire trip and will ensure that you are properly acclimatized for the conditions you encounter. It includes doing easier treks at lower altitudes and spending time on less arduous pursuits such as visiting a local community museum or monastery. On arrival, we will arrange a pick-up from the airport and transfer you to a hotel for your first night in Nepal. And the next day, you will get your first taste of walking in the Himalayas. You will then gradually trek up to the Himalayan range. After a few days of trekking, you will be ready to go further up to climb a mountain.
