Authentic Research and Field Support in Nepal with Long-Term Himalayan Field Experience

Nepal is more than mountains and trekking trails. Across the Himalayas, there are living communities shaped by migration, tourism, local traditions, changing livelihoods, and ongoing social transformation. Over the years, we have met many students, researchers, documentary teams, and academic visitors who come to Nepal not only to travel, but also to learn, observe, interact, and better understand Himalayan life and society.

Since 2003, Nepal Hiking Pvt. Ltd. has been working across different regions of Nepal through trekking, cultural travel, and mountain journeys. Alongside tourism, this long-term field experience has also created close connections with local communities, guides, rural landscapes, and changing realities in mountain areas.

About the Founder

Tilak Bahadur Thapa Magar, founder of Nepal Hiking Pvt. Ltd, has been involved in Himalayan tourism and trekking operations in Nepal since 2003. In addition to long-term experience in mountain travel and community engagement, he also served as Chairperson of Ward No. 11 of Neelakantha Municipality, Dhading from 2017 to 2022.

Tilak is currently pursuing higher academic engagement as an MPhil-leading PhD scholar at the Central Department of Rural Development under Tribhuvan University. His academic interests are closely related to mountain communities, tourism, livelihoods, rural transformation, and sustainable Himalayan development.

His master’s research explored the perceptions of high-altitude climbing guides from Magar communities in Nepal. Over time, his experience in tourism, local governance, and academic research has created a growing interest in understanding Himalayan societies beyond tourism alone.
