Day 2Trek to Island Peak Base Camp – Technical Training

After breakfast, the climb officially begins. Accompanied by your climbing guide and support team, you will trek from Chhukung/Dingboche to Island Peak Base Camp, following the Imja Valley and traversing glacial moraine beneath Lhotse and Nuptse.

The walk is short but physically demanding due to altitude and terrain. Upon arrival at Island Peak Base Camp, the camp will be set up by the crew, including high-altitude tents and kitchen facilities.

In the afternoon, you will take part in a technical training session, covering:

  • Proper use of crampons and ice axe

  • Walking techniques on snow and ice

  • Fixed-rope climbing using jumar and safety lines

  • Harness setup and rope management

  • Descent techniques using descenders

This training ensures that all climbers are confident and prepared for summit day, regardless of prior experience.

A hot, freshly prepared dinner will be served at camp.

Altitude: approx. 5,200 m
Walking Time: 3–5 hours

Day 3Summit Attempt of Island Peak (6,189 m) – Return to Chhukung or Dingboche

Summit day begins early in the morning, usually between midnight and 2:00 am, depending on weather and conditions. After a light breakfast, the ascent starts under headlamp, following a route of rocky terrain before reaching the glacier.

Key sections of the climb include:

  • Glacier travel with roped teams

  • Crossing snow bridges and crevasses

  • Fixed-rope ascent of the steep ice headwall (approx. 50–55°)

  • A narrow, exposed summit ridge leading to the top

Reaching the summit of Island Peak (6,189 m) offers outstanding views of Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Makalu, Baruntse, and surrounding Himalayan giants.

After spending a short time on the summit, the descent follows the same route back to Base Camp, where you will briefly rest and pack before continuing down to Chhukung or Dingboche on the same day.

This is a long and demanding day, requiring good fitness, focus, and determination.

I joined Island Peak climbing with Nepal Hiking after long plan from Moscow. For me safety and guide experience was most important. Team was very professional and calm even in difficult weather. Our Sherpa guide explain everything slowly, not rush, and help when someone tired. Base camp was well organized, tents warm and food enough even at high altitude. Summit day was hard but unforgettable. I feel trust with team and never feel alone on mountain. This company really know Himalayan condition, not only business. For Russian climbers who want real experience and honest service, I strongly recommend Nepal Hiking.

My English is not very good, but Nepal Hiking team understand everything. From airport pickup until end, everything smooth. I like that guides explain risks honestly, not promise easy summit. Weather change fast, but decision making was correct. We turned back little earlier one day and next day summit successful. This show experience. I respect this. Food simple but good. Team spirit was strong. I will come back for 7000m peak with same company.

I am Russian living in Balkan region. I climbed many mountains in Europe, but Himalaya is different world. Nepal Hiking gave me confidence. They care about environment and local people. Porters treated with respect. Camps were clean, tents strong, even in wind. Guides know route very well. On summit ridge I feel tired but Krishna encourage calmly, not shouting. This is important for me. I recommend this company for climbers who want serious mountain, not only photo.

Island Peak was my first Himalayan peak. I was nervous but Nepal Hiking guide give good training before climb. Use of equipment explained clearly. Rope work done professional. No unnecessary risk. Weather was cold and windy but team was ready. I like that group size was small. This make better communication. From Moscow to Himalaya, long travel, but worth it. I feel proud to summit with this team.

I live in Poland but I am Russian climber and dream long time about Himalaya. Nepal Hiking give me chance to do Island Peak step by step. Acclimatization was very good, slow pace, many checks on health. Porters and staff always smiling and helping. Not luxury, but real mountain life, clean and organized. Summit push was cold but guides were strong and motivated us. I feel safe all time. Price was fair for quality. This is not tourist factory, this is real mountain company.
