The demanding Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek is perfect for seasoned trekkers ready for a challenge. Starting in Beni, the trek follows the Myagdi Khola River to the Chhonbardan Glacier at the foot of mighty Dhaulagiri. As you ascend ever higher through predominantly Magar villages, you will traverse barren and often snow-covered peaks with stunning vistas at every turn. Finally, rest up at Dhaulagiri Base Camp before trekking up the glacier side, over French Pass (5,360m), and into the Hidden Valley.

Combine the Dhaulagiri Base Camp Trek with Dhampus Peak Climbing

The Dhaulagiri Base Camp trek is a challenging but extraordinary journey in Nepal’s Annapurna region. The trek offers experienced mountaineers the chance to take on the Dhampus Peak (6,060 m), while those looking for something less vigorous are rewarded with close-up views of Dhaulagiri (8,167 m) and other 7000m+ peaks. It passes through stunning landscapes, from green farming villages to snow-covered glaciers and barren mountainscapes. As a circuit, you won’t be retracing your steps, and as an expedition, it will no doubt take you to the edge of your comfort zone.

NepalHiking will arrange all logistic support to make your trek memorable and successful with English speaking supporting guide, cook, kitchen helpers, and porters to carry your trekking stuff and food supply.

How the trek starts and ends?

This trek starts in Beni after an 8-9 hours drive from Kathmandu and ends up in Marpha (check the itinerary below). Then, per the programme published on this page, you will drive to Pokhara from Marpha; and back to Kathmandu.

As there is road access to Pokhara, we have included a jeep drive to Pokhara. However, there is also an option with the flight from Jomsom to Pokhara. Still, it is dependable on the weather and the possibility of getting delayed or cancelled due to poor visibility of the weather. Thus, the flight option is not recommended.

Here experienced mountaineers can summit Dhampus Peak (6,060 m). Then, finally, descend over Dhampus Pass to Jomsom for a journey filled with unforgettable moments in one of the least explored regions of Nepal’s spectacular Annapurna Himalaya range.

When is the best time for the Dhaulagiri Base Camp Trek?

The ideal times for trekking to the base camp of Dhaulagiri mountain are in either Spring (March-May) or Autumn (September-November). During these seasons, one can enjoy great weather with clear skies and minimized risk of inclement weather.

Meals and Accommodation

There are no lodges or teahouses on the trek route, though there are some community lodges en route to Dhaulagiri Base Camp. Thus, this trek will be semi-tea house and camping- you will stay at teahouses/lodges, where they are available, and at a tented camp where tea house facilities are unavailable, such as in Dhaulagiri Base Camp and Hidden valley.

NepalHiking will arrange all logistic support to make your trek memorable and successful with English speaking supporting guide, cook, kitchen helpers, and porters to carry your trekking stuff and food supply.

Group Traveller

My most recent trek with Nepal Hiking was circumnavigating the Dhaulagiri massif west of the Annapurnas. As with other trips, they delivered a top-quality product at a very reasonable price. From pickup at Tribhuvan airport, immaculate accommodation in Kathmandu, well-equipped porters and guides on the trails and utmost care for their clients’ safety exceed expectations and pride themselves on customer satisfaction.

The Dhaulagiri Trek was remote and challenging. Steep slopes, landslides, heavy snow falling, extreme cold. Nepal Hiking combined smart, experienced leadership with good equipment and focused on customer well-being to ensure a memorable experience. Go with them. You will not regret it.
