We offer a unique opportunity to experience the beauty of the Nepal Himalayas through a helicopter flight. This trip is just a 5-hour day trip so that you can combine it with other tours. On this trip, you will take off from Kathmandu airport in the morning and fly over Phakding village, Namche Bazar, and Syangboche airport at the foot of Mt. Everest. Then, finally, take a helicopter tour to Everest Base Camp and stop at Kalapathar for photography.
Visiting Everest Base camp and Kalapathar by Helicopter tour is a lifetime adventure experience. It takes you to the centre of the Himalayas, where you’ll fly over some of the world’s tallest mountains. Your journey begins in Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital city, which is 1350 metres above sea level. Then, after a scenic heli flight through the foothills of the Himalayas, you arrive at Lukla airport, which is 2804 metres above sea level.
Also, Lukla is the gateway to Mount Everest, the world’s highest mountain. Here, you will stop for 5 minutes to store the fuel. Immediately after, you will fly and head towards the Khumbu region, home to the famous Mount Everest. During your flight, you’ll see amazing views of the Himalayan peaks. They include Amadablam, Thamserku, Lhotse, Nuptse, and, of course, Everest’s tallest mountain.
A Lifetime Experience with an Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour
Once you reach Pheriche at 4300 metres above sea level, you will stop here for a shuttle flight to Everest Base Camp and Kalapathar. The helicopter has a capacity of 5 passengers (approximately 480 k.g.). And there will be 2 flights from there due to the high altitude. Therefore, only 3 passengers will take the first shuttle flight to Everest Base Camp and Kalapathar, which is about a 10-minute flight. As you land at the Kalapathar, you will enjoy the view of Mt. Everest. And soon after a short photograph, you will fly back to Pheriche. Then, the remaining 2 passengers make the same trip to EBC and Kalapathar.
Enjoy the Breakfast at Everest View Hotel
After completing the 2nd flight, you fly to Syangboche and stop at the Everest View Hotel at 3800 metres. You will enjoy your breakfast overlooking Mt. Everest and other Himalayan ranges. You will stop here for about an hour and have plenty of time for photography. After breakfast, you will fly back to Kathmandu.
When is the best time to undertake the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour?
The ideal months to embark on the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour are in the spring (March to May) and fall (September to November). These periods offer stable weather conditions with clear skies and less precipitation, which is crucial for helicopter flights.
Spring Season
The spring season attracts both hikers and helicopter tour enthusiasts in equal measure. The weather is usually warm, and the clear skies offer spectacular views of the Everest region and its peaks. Additionally, the bloom of wildflowers, including the renowned rhododendrons, adds to the beauty of the landscape.
Autumn Season
Autumn provides weather conditions similar to spring, making it an ideal time for helicopter tours. The post-monsoon season ensures the dust and haze have been cleared, offering crisp views of the Himalayas. Temperatures are comfortably cool, and the chances of precipitation are minimal.
Flight delays or cancellation
Remember, though, that the Himalayan weather is prone to sudden changes, and even during the best seasons, flights could face delays or cancellations due to the weather. Always plan flexibly and consider tour operators’ advice and weather forecasts.
If you prefer less crowded times, the shoulder seasons (late November and early December, late February, and early March) offer a good balance between decent weather and fewer tourists. However, the weather can be more variable.
Avoid the monsoon season (June to August) due to heavy rains, potential flight cancellations, and obscured views. The mid-winter months (December to February) can be very cold, though clear days can still offer good conditions for flights.
