Poon Hill Trek
Poon Hill, the Sunrise View Trek, the trekkers enjoying a rest in Ghandruk, the view of Annapurna South, Hiuchuli and Fishtail mountain from left to right.

Especially the Poon Hill Trek, also known as the Annapurna Panorama trek, which some people spell as Pun Hill,  is one of the best treks for the Annapurna Region trek.

As the trek is easily accessible from Pokhara, many people complete the trek in a 4-day.

To start the trek, you will take an hour’s drive from Pokhara to Nayapul. Then, you will experience your first-day trek walking through the Modhi river. After a 4-5 hour walk, you will reach Tikhedhunga to stay overnight.

Currently, there is also connectivity of a rough road that goes up to Banthati. Then it is just about a 2-hour walk to Ghorepani / Poon Hill.

A good number of Westerners, European including Nepali people, visit Poon Hill every year because the trek is comparatively easier than other treks.

Pre-plan information for Poon Hill Trek

Are you planning for a short but easy trek in Nepal? Not willing for a physically demanding trek such as Annapurna Circuit, Tilicho Lake, or Everest Base Camp? In general, do you like hiking or trekking but are not interested in long days of trekking? In other words, do you like hiking or trekking but don’t want to go above 3200 metres? Similarly, you are looking for a few days of trekking to enjoy culture, nature, and adventure, but no longer trek than a week or so? These questions are equally important while pre-planning a trip to Nepal.

No worries! We have designed a short and physically less demanding journey for you.

Above all, this hike involves some ascent and descent walking in the mid-hilly region, which takes you up to 3210 metres above sea level, where Poon Hill is situated.

Nevertheless, walking is much recommended to avoid bumpy driving. Furthermore, the scenery is more beautiful while walking. Uniquely, hiking is much more fun in contrast to driving.

Equally important, the major highlights of this Ghorepani and Poon Hill trekking are hiking to Poon Hill station (3210 metres) and the sunrise view from there.

Sunrise view from Poon Hill

From Poon Hill, you can enjoy a mesmerizing view of sunrise and spectacular mountain views. Certainly, you will see Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Himchuli, Machhapuchhre, and many more.

Likewise, another highlight of the trek is a visit to the Magar community village in Ulleri and the Gurung communities villages in Ghandruk, which are noteworthy. After a visit to the local communities, you will continue your journey to Tadapani, Ghandruk, and adjourn your journey in Birethanti and Nayapul, making a clockwise.

Don’t miss out on this Poon Hill trek if you don’t have enough time for Annapurna Circuit Trek!

The recent revision of the trek itinerary

There is road access up to Hille and Tikhedhunga from Birethanti. So, walking through bumpy and dusty roads is not much fun. Therefore, we have cut off the walking option between Birethanti and Tikhedhunga. Alternatively, we will provide a jeep drive to Tikhedhunga, and you will hike to Ulleri from there. Similarly, we have cut off the walking option from Ghandruk to Birethanti. Instead, you will drive from Ghandruk to Pokhara. However, the jeep drive is only possible from October through June (until before monsoon).
