A Road Trip to Everest Base Camp
A Road Trip to Salleri for Everest Base Camp

The Road Trip to Everest Base Camp is an alternative trek itinerary in adversary to the normal trek route of taking a flight to Lukla and trekking to Everest base Camp. Unfortunately, due to bad weather in Lukla, the flight got cancelled for a week or even longer in October/November in Lukla. Thus, NepalHiking decided to facilitate their travellers to prepare a comprehensive itinerary- the Road Trip to Everest Base Camp. It is the best trek itinerary because you don’t need to worry about a flight delay or cancelled due to bad weather in Lukla!

The Journey Begins with Jeep Drive to Salleri– Seeing the Rural Areas of Eastern Nepal

This rugged jeep ride will take you through some of the most beautiful terrains in Nepal and give you an unforgettable experience! As you begin your jeep driving journey, you will see the incredible views of the rural area of eastern Nepal. The jeep ride is an amazing experience – with jaw-droppingly narrow roads, challenging terrain, and rugged mountainsides. The views of Mount Everest, Mt. Cho Oyu, and other surrounding mountains are very impressive. In addition, you can stop to take photos and appreciate the local culture and people along the way. It’s an 8-9 hour drive to reach Salleri from Kathmandu (see the details in the Itinerary below).

When is the best time for a Road Trip To Everest Base camp?

You can plan this trip any time from October to the end of May before the start of the monsoon. However, mid-October till the end of November is the best time to join this trip. From early December till the end of February is winter time in Nepal, and the weather could be very challenging due to cold weather. However, still, you can do the trek with better preparation of trekking equipment.

Family Traveller

We made the Road Drive Trip to Everest Base Camp in March 2023 by starting the jeep drive from Kathmandu to Salleri. The off-road and 9-10 hours of long driving were adventurous, but the landscapes were incredible. Our guide Pemba and the strong porter Dorjee ensured we were safe and happy at each step. Everything was completely managed from the beginning to the end of the trek. The trek itself was unbelievably gorgeous and an incredible experience. We highly recommend the NepalHiking, the guide and porter, to anyone looking for this journey.
