The Tamang Heritage Trail is a newly opened trekking route in the Langtang region of Nepal. It offers a great opportunity to discover this beautiful part of the country and the unique culture of the Tamang people, the descendants of settlers from Tibet.
How to get to the Tamang Heritage Trail?
About a day’s bus ride from Kathmandu follows a circular route from the green foothills and rhododendron forests of the Ganesh Himal at Syabrubesi and through the high grasslands around Nagthali Danda via the Goljung valley to reach the Tamang Heritage Trail, the villages of Thuman and Briddim on the old trade route into Tibet.
Enjoy the Panoramic landscape en route to Tamang Heritage Trail
The trail takes you through a picturesque village surrounded by terraced hillsides, peaceful, isolated valleys, riverside paths and mountain ridges. It gives magnificent views along the way of the snow-covered peaks of the Himalayas. The views from the Goljung Pass across the Langtang region and into Tibet never fail to be awe-inspiring. Combine this with the colourful Tamang festivals and traditional costumes, the distinctive architecture and the hospitality of the villagers, and you have a recipe for a stimulating and unforgettable experience in this little-known part of the world.
Enjoy a hot spring
In the small town of Tatopani, set in a steep wooded gorge, you can bathe in the natural hot springs, ideal for relaxing after a day on the trail.
Accommodation on the Trail
There are lodges along the way for overnight stops, which are community-based lodges owned by the local community.
