Where is Tengobhce Monastery Located?

It is located in the Khumbu valley of Nepal, northeast of Kathmandu, on the southern face of Mt. Everest, at an elevation of 3,861 meters. The nearest town is Namche Bazaar which can be reached by plane, followed by a 2-day hike from Lukla Airport. In addition, a day hike to the monastery is possible from Namche if you are well-acclimatized. 

How to Reach There?

The simplest way to reach the monastery is to take a charter helicopter tour from Kathmandu. This option takes approximately 2 hours and provides stunning aerial views of the surrounding landscape. You can also book fixed-wing regular flights to Lukla Airport if you’d like to explore more of Nepal before arriving at Tengboche Monastery or join the standard trek programme of Everest Base Camp or a shorter trek route starting from Lukla and trek to Namche and Tengboche.

When Is The Best Time To Visit Tengboche Monastery?

The best time of year to visit Tengboche Monastery is from October to mid-November. During this time, the weather is mild, making it perfect for sightseeing and trekking in the mountains. As mentioned above, there are also plenty of activities to enjoy, including prayer ceremonies with monks, festival celebrations, spectacular mountain views and soaking up the peaceful atmosphere of this religious destination.

Weather at Tengboche Monastery

The weather and temperature at Tengboche Monastery change seasonally and range from -10°C to 15°C. In winter, temperatures can fall below freezing, with Mt. Everest and nearby peaks frequently snow-covered. Spring and summer bring temperate days, with temperatures around 10-15°C, much warmer than winter!
