Things to do and places to visit in Pokhara

Pokhara is approximately 200 km west of Kathmandu and is the second-largest city in Nepal. With some of the most breathtaking natural beauty in the country, Pokhara is a city well worth visiting. Here are some wonderful things to do and visit in Pokhara.

Spend some time at Fewa Tal (Fewa Lake)

Measuring 1.5km by 4km, Fewa Tal is the second-largest lake in Nepal. And it serves as a playground for locals and visitors alike. You could hire one of the brightly coloured sailboats or rowing boats and set sail across the water or swim if you feel brave. The water is reasonably shallow, ensuring it feels comfortably warm.

At the lake, a visit to Barahi Temple is an absolute must. This two-storeyed pagoda is Pokhara’s most important temple and sits in the middle of the lake.

Explore Devi’s Fall

2 km southwest of Pokhara airport, you’ll find Devi’s fall. It is also known locally as Patale Chhango or Hell’s fall). The water then forms a pool before descending into an underground tunnel 100 metres underground. This awe-inspiring waterfall is said to be lucky, with visitors throwing coins into the statues that sit at its base. It is an incredibly popular attraction for tourists to the region and does tend to get busy during peak periods.

To get the best from your adventure travels in Pokhara, particularly if you don’t have much time in the city, it is well worth taking part in a Pokhara tour with an official guide. A guide can safely navigate these natural wonders and share stories and legends about the region.

Climb to do the World Peace Pagoda

At the top of the hill to the south of Fewa lake sits the World Peace Pagoda. Access to the pagoda involves crossing the lake and taking a steep climb. The pagoda itself is an impressive sight and well worth the visit. But what makes it worth exploring is the incredible views across the Annapurna mountain range and the city you can enjoy from its vantage point.

Visit the Old Bazar

The city’s Old Bazaar is at odds with the natural wonders of Pokhara. It’s a bustling street market that you must see to believe! The traders here are ethnically diverse, each selling a wide array of different and exotic clothes. The sights and sounds of Pokhara’s Old Bazaar are worth exploring even if you don’t intend to shop, but shopping here is heartily recommended! Whilst many of Nepal’s bazaars have been marred by modern consumerism, the old-world charm here is still alive and well. Pokhara’s Old Bazaar has located about 4 km from Lakeside. And it is such a popular focal point in the city that it is incredibly easy to find and explore.
