Tilak Thapa Magar, founder of Nepal Hiking Pvt. Ltd., is a highly respected figure in Nepalese tourism, known for over 25 years of guiding travellers, visionary leadership, and a profound commitment to community development. He is a government-licensed trek guide (No. 3225/060) and tourist guide (No. 277/068), recognised nationally for his expertise, professionalism, and ethical approach.
Beyond tourism, Tilak has made a lasting impact through politics, philanthropy, and social initiatives, inspiring countless individuals across Nepal.
Born in 1973 in the rural village of Jyamrung, Dhading, Tilak grew up surrounded by the majestic Himalayan landscape. He completed his primary education at Lamasthan Primary School and high school at Achane Secondary School.
Tilak pursued higher education at Ratna Rajya Laxmi Campus, earning a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Rural Development from Tribhuvan University, Kirtipur. He is currently pursuing MPhil leading to a PhD, focusing on mountain tourism as a tool for rural development, community empowerment, and sustainable tourism practices.

The company has grown into one of Nepal’s leading adventure travel agencies, earning the Tourism Business Award in 2018 and widespread recognition for responsible tourism practices.
Tilak has also invested in Hotel Sohum and Kathmandu Suite Home, raising the bar for hospitality and offering travellers comfortable, culturally immersive experiences.
A dedicated yoga practitioner, Tilak integrates Dynamic, Kundalini, and Vipassana meditation into daily life and business. He believes that travel should not only explore landscapes but also cultivate mindfulness, compassion, and inner growth.
