Detailed Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Lhasa (3,650 m)

Arrive in Lhasa and be warmly welcomed by your Tibetan guide. You will be transferred to your hotel in the heart of the city, taking in views of the majestic Yarlung Tsangpo River. After settling in, take a moment to rest and adjust to the altitude. Later, your guide will provide essential travel information, introduce your fellow travellers, and assist with any special requirements. Overnight in Lhasa.

Day 2Drepung and Sera Monasteries

Discover the spiritual heartbeat of Tibet with a full day exploring its grand monasteries. Begin at Drepung Monastery, once home to over 10,000 monks, and explore Loseling College to gain insight into monastic life and education. In the afternoon, visit Sera Monastery to witness the famous monk debates, a fascinating display of Tibetan scholarship and tradition. Overnight in Lhasa.

Day 3Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Street

Step inside history at the UNESCO-listed Potala Palace, the former residence of the Dalai Lamas, and admire panoramic views of Lhasa. Explore Jokhang Temple, observing pilgrims in devotion, and take a leisurely kora around Barkhor Street. Experience Tibetan culture firsthand in a local tea house, enjoying traditional tea while learning about daily life in the city. Overnight in Lhasa.

Days 04Lhasa to Shigatse via Gyantse (360 km)

Embark on a scenic journey over Gampala Pass to Yamdrok Lake, with its turquoise waters framed by snow-capped peaks. Visit a local village for lunch and explore the stunning Korola Glacier. Stop at Simila Mountain Pass to hang prayer flags and soak in the spiritual landscape. Continue through Gyantse, admiring its ancient architecture and fertile barley fields, before arriving in Shigatse for an overnight stay.

Day 5Shigatse to Everest Base Camp (5,000 m)

Set out early for the adventure of a lifetime as you approach Everest Base Camp. Pause at Gyatsola and Gawula passes for awe-inspiring Himalayan vistas, witnessing Everest gradually reveal itself. Arrive at the Base Camp in time to experience sunset over the world’s tallest peak, followed by stargazing under a clear, Himalayan night sky. Overnight in a comfortable tent or at Rongbuk Guesthouse.

Day 6Everest Base Camp to Shigatse via Sakya

Visit Rongbuk Monastery, perched at over 5,150 metres, and marvel at the high-altitude monastic life. Return to Shigatse via Dinggye and Sakya, with viewpoints offering extraordinary views of Everest, Lhotse, and the surrounding glaciers. In the evening, enjoy traditional Tibetan music and dance performances over dinner, celebrating your Everest journey. Overnight in Shigatse.

Day 7Shigatse to Lhasa

Explore Tashilhunpo Monastery, home of the Panchen Lama, and view the world’s largest statue of Maitreya Buddha. Travel back to Lhasa along the Yarlung Tsangpo River, and spend your evening wandering through Barkhor Street, shopping for souvenirs or soaking up the local atmosphere. Overnight in Lhasa.

Day 8Departure

Your Tibetan adventure concludes with a transfer to the airport or railway station for onward travel.

Our private tour with help of Tilak was excellent. Tenzin, our guide, was kind and very knowledgeable. Pema, the driver, handled mountain roads really well. Visiting Potala Palace and Rongbuk Monastery was amazing. The trip was very organised, safe, and full of beautiful views. I recommend it for everyone!
