Trip Overview of Kanchenjunga Expedition

Embark on the Kanchenjunga Expedition in Nepal, a remote and challenging climb to the world’s third-highest peak at 8,586 m (28,169 ft). Located on the Nepal–Sikkim border, this expedition combines technical mountaineering, cultural encounters, and stunning Himalayan scenery. Your journey begins in Kathmandu, Nepal, followed by trekking through eastern Nepal’s Taplejung district. Along the way, you are supported by a fully equipped team, including experienced climbing guides, Sherpas, cooks, and kitchen helpers, with comfortable teahouse accommodations until reaching the base camp. For those seeking a high-altitude trekking experience without technical climbing, we recommend the Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trekking, or if you prefer a slightly lower but still challenging climb, explore our 7,000 m expeditions in Nepal.

Why Choose the Kanchenjunga Expedition?

  • Remote and less crowded than Everest or Makalu.
  • Technical alpine climb suited for experienced mountaineers.
  • Cultural immersion with Rai, Limbu, and Sherpa communities.
  • Stunning views of glaciers, ridges, and the massive Kanchenjunga massif.

Compare with our Dhaulagiri Expedition for another challenging 8000m climb in Nepal.

Day 4:Fly to Bhadrapur and Drive to Taplejung

Take a short domestic flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur Airport and drive to Taplejung (5-6 hours, 1,300 m/4,265 ft). This efficient route reduces long road travel, allowing more time for trekking and acclimatization. Overnight stay at a local hotel.

Days 5–10:Trekking to Ramche

The expedition trek begins from Khamdani, passing through scenic villages, terraced fields, and lush forests. Trekking altitudes gradually increase from 1,650 m (5,413 ft) to Ramche (4,530 m/14,862 ft). Daily trekking takes 5–8 hours, with overnight stays in tea houses or camps offering warm meals and cultural experiences with local Rai and Limbu communities.

This stage provides an ideal introduction to high-altitude trekking in Nepal, helping climbers acclimatize before reaching advanced base camps.

Day 11:Acclimatization Day

Rest and acclimatize at Ramche before heading higher. Optional short hikes prepare your body for the upcoming glacier trek.

Days 12–13:Glacier Camp and Advanced Base Camp

At ABC, our experienced climbing guides and fully supported team – including cooks, helpers, and base camp staff – prepare tents, meals, and all essential arrangements for your summit attempt.

Days 14–53:Summit Climbing Period

At ABC and higher camps, you’ll have:

  • Full board meals prepared by camp chefs

  • Heated dining and resting areas

  • Oxygen and high-altitude safety support

  • Satellite communication for emergency and weather updates

For trekkers who do not wish to summit, consider the Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek, a spectacular alternative to experience the beauty of the region without technical climbing.
