18 Days / 17 Nights | Thorong Peak Climbing with Tilicho Lake and Annapurna Circuit

Some treks are memorable; others quietly change you. Summiting Thorong Peak (6,144 m), standing beside the vast turquoise waters of Tilicho Lake (4,919 m), and walking a classic section of the Annapurna Circuit belongs firmly in the second category—and this journey is offered as a fully guided, private expedition.

This is not a route rushed through or treated lightly. The itinerary is carefully paced, allowing proper acclimatisation, safe summit support, and time to experience mountain villages and high Himalayan landscapes as they unfold—pass by pass, valley by valley.

Designed for trekkers looking for more than a standard circuit, this trip balances challenge with comfort, adventure with safety, and independence with professional support. With an experienced climbing guide, dedicated porters, and all logistics handled, you can focus fully on the journey itself.

This 18-day programme is available on a private basis and can be tailored to your dates, pace, and experience level.

Trip Overview

  • Region: Annapurna & Mustang
  • Duration: 18 Days / 17 Nights
  • Maximum Altitude: Thorong Peak – 6,144 m
  • Difficulty: Challenging (high-altitude trekking + trekking peak)
  • Style: Private, fully guided trek with climbing support
  • Best Seasons: April–May | September–November

Best Time to Climb

The ideal seasons for the Thorong Peak and Tilicho Lake Trek are Spring (March–May) and Autumn (September–November), when weather is most stable, skies are clear, and mountain views are spectacular.

  • Spring (March–May): Mild temperatures, blooming rhododendrons, and great visibility.
  • Autumn (September–November): Crisp air, dry trails, and the best Himalayan panoramas.

Summer/Monsoon (June–August): Rain and slippery trails make trekking less ideal.
Winter (December–February): Cold and snowy at high elevations; possible but challenging.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 01 – Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350 m)

You arrive in Kathmandu, where the noise, colour, and movement feel worlds away from the quiet valleys ahead. After hotel check-in, we sit together for a relaxed briefing—checking gear, permits, and talking through the journey in detail.

Overnight: Hotel

Day 02 – Drive Kathmandu → Besisahar → Dharapani (1,960 m)

The long but scenic drive introduces rural Nepal—terraced hillsides, rivers, and small towns. From Besisahar onwards, the road narrows and the mountains start to close in. Dharapani feels like a true gateway to the Annapurna region.

Overnight: Lodge

Day 03 – Dharapani → Chame (2,670 m)

The trail winds through pine forests and stone villages. Waterfalls crash down sheer cliffs, and the Marsyangdi River follows us closely. Chame, the district headquarters of Manang, sits beneath towering rock faces.

Overnight: Lodge

Day 04 –Chame → Pisang (3,200 m)

The air grows cooler and drier. We walk beneath enormous cliffs and through apple-growing villages. The first real views of Annapurna II begin to appear—quietly reminding us what lies ahead.

Overnight: Lodge

Day 05 – Pisang → Manang (3,540 m)

One of the most scenic days of the trek. The landscape opens wide, almost Tibetan in feel. Manang is a place to pause—a village where trekkers, climbers, and locals all slow down together.

Overnight: Lodge

Day 06 – Acclimatisation Day in Manang (3,540 m)

This day is essential. Short hikes to higher viewpoints help the body adapt, while afternoons are spent resting, reading, or sitting quietly with tea and mountain views. Acclimatisation here makes everything later safer and more enjoyable.

Overnight: Lodge

Day 07 – Manang → Siri Kharka (4,060 m)

Leaving the main circuit trail, we head towards Tilicho. The route is quieter, wilder, and more rugged. The sense of remoteness increases with every step.

Overnight: Lodge

Day 08 –Siri Kharka → Tilicho Base Camp (4,150 m)

A dramatic day across exposed slopes and narrow trails. The terrain demands focus, but the scenery is extraordinary—raw rock, ice, and sky. Tilicho Base Camp sits in a stark, beautiful amphitheatre of mountains.

Overnight: Lodge

Day 09 –Tilicho Base Camp → Tilicho Lake (4,919 m) → Base Camp

An early start. As the sun rises, Tilicho Lake slowly reveals itself—still, immense, and intensely blue. Few places feel this untouched. We spend time at the lake before carefully returning to Base Camp.

Overnight: Lodge

Day 10 –Tilicho Base Camp → Yak Kharka (4,050 m)

Rejoining the Annapurna Circuit feels like returning to familiar ground, though the body now moves differently—more steadily, more aware of altitude.

Overnight: Lodge

Day 11 – Yak Kharka → Thorong Phedi / High Camp (4,450–4,880 m)

The air is thin now. We walk slowly, deliberately. Thorong Phedi sits directly beneath the pass and near the route to Thorong Peak—an important staging point.

Overnight: Lodge

**Day 12 – Summit Day: Thorong Peak (6,144 m)

A long, demanding, and deeply rewarding day. Roped where necessary, we climb steadily as the horizon expands with every metre gained. The summit offers a vast Himalayan panorama—Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Mustang stretching endlessly.
We descend carefully back to Thorong Phedi/High camp.

Overnight: Lodge

Day 13 –Thorong Phedi/High Camp → Thorong La Pass (5,416 m) → Muktinath (3,800 m)

Crossing Thorong La at dawn is unforgettable—prayer flags snapping in the wind, silence broken only by footsteps. The descent into Mustang is dramatic, dry, and deeply contrasting.

Overnight: Lodge

Day 14 – Drive Muktinath → Pokhara (822 m)

A full-day drive through Jomsom, Kali Gandaki gorge, and lush mid-hills. After days of stone and ice, greenery feels almost unreal. Pokhara welcomes you with warmth and comfort.

Overnight: Hotel

Day 15 – Rest Day in Pokhara (822 m)

A well-earned pause. Lakeside walks, good food, and reflections on the journey just completed.

Overnight: Hotel

Day 16 – Pokhara → Kathmandu (1,350 m)

Drive or fly back to Kathmandu, watching the hills flatten as the city approaches.

Overnight: Hotel

Day 17 – Free Day / Buffer Day in Kathmandu

A flexible day for rest, sightseeing, or as a contingency for weather and mountain conditions.

Overnight: Hotel

Day 18 – Final Departure

Transfer to the airport with memories that will last far longer than the journey itself.

This trek was challenging, but the people made it possible. Hari and Bhim carried our loads with respect and dignity, and it was clear they were treated well by the company, which mattered a lot to me.

Climbing with Prem was a privilege. He explained things simply, never rushed us, and always watched our condition carefully. Crossing Thorong La after the summit felt like a victory we had earned step by step.

Tilak handled everything very professionally, from permits to transport, and the pickup and drop-off were always on time. Monica organised the farewell dinner, and sitting together at the end, sharing stories, was a beautiful way to close the journey. I came to Nepal as a client and left feeling part of a team.

I honestly don’t know where to start. From the moment we were picked up at the airport, everything felt calm and well looked after. Tilak was there to welcome us and explain the plan clearly, and Monica was always checking if we needed anything in Kathmandu.

On the mountain, Prem and Tsering were incredible. Prem guided us on Thorong Peak with so much patience and confidence that even on the hard sections I felt safe. Tsering was always smiling, even when the days were long. Our porter Bhim was strong, kind, and quietly supportive every single day.

Tilicho Lake was emotional for me — silent, powerful, and worth every step. Reaching the summit of Thorong Peak is something I will carry for life. The farewell dinner at the end felt like saying goodbye to friends, not just a trekking team. Thank you all from my heart.

This was my first high-altitude climb, and I was nervous at the start, but from day one Tilak and his daughter Monika made us feel completely supported. Everything was well organised and reassuring. On the trail, Krisna’s encouragement really helped on the tougher days during the Thorong Peak climb. Tilicho Lake was quiet and unforgettable. The farewell dinner was emotional and full of laughter. This was more than a trek—it was a truly special experience.
